Mousuni is a small island of the Sunderban Delta. Its beauty lies in the confluence of the sea with the river. Made by the British for transportation of salt and dry fish, the mainstay economy of the people here is agriculture and fishing. However the severe impacts of climate change has its toll on the lives of people here who were already having a precarious existence.

Mousini Island is an example of virgin Island where most human feet have not left behind their marks yet. The unexplored Island hidden in Namkhana of West Bengal and adjacent to Sunderban Delta can prove to be your best weekend’s gateway. Open to sea from its three sides, Mousuni Island is the perfect amalgamation of peace and beach, sand and the sun, sea and rivers.

How to reach :

You can avail the bus or train to reach Namkhana. Train services are available from Sealdah(South). After reaching Namkhana, cross the river Hatania Doania by a 10 minutes boat ride.

After reaching, take a Toto/vehicle to Durgapur kheya ghat, which will take approximately 30 minutes.

Again take a boat ride to cross the river and reach Bagdanga.

From Bagdanga, you will be picked up and dropped at Baliara, which will take approximately 20 minutes.

Accommodation :

Mousuni Island has a tent facilities, which is a sheer mixture of nature and solace. Keeping in sync with the purely natural environment, the property ensures to put the elements of the mechanized world at bay, only provided with the basic necessities like toilets, fresh sheets, warm blankets, pillows. The accommodation for each tent is 3 persons and the total accommodation can’t exceed 20 persons. Electricity is unavailable so Solar power is the source of energy here.

Activities :

Mousini Island is a heavenly abode for all the bird watchers and Kakramarir Char is the ideal point.

The tents are located only about 50 meters far from the sea, providing you with ample opportunities for boating or enjoying the sea view.
Sunset at the beach is mesmerizing. Take a stroll around the beach and take the pleasure of viewing the setting sun rays.
Relax on a Hammock in Baliara beach and enjoy the riverine landscape of Patibunia.

There are plenty of fishermen’s colonies all over the beach. Explore the fishermen’s life through interaction and exchanging of ideas.
Relish the mud walk through Mangrove forests and provide the food to your adventurous soul.
