An enjoyable weekend trip in Dawaipani

On the way to the popular tourist spot Darjeeling, lies a small off beat village Dawaipani. Take a detour from the known route to crowded Darjeeling and spend some leisure time at a peaceful and serene place Dawaipani also known as AbboteDawaipani Bhutia Basti. Myth has it, once a British officer was suffering from skin disease which was cured after he had taken bath at a waterfall at this place and thus the name – Dawaipani. Situated at hilltop, Dawaipani offers you a clear view of Kanchenjunga , free from mist and clouds. Carpet like Tea Gardens situated down the slope of hills and small villages situated on the hills, Dawaipani is mainly inhabited by the Bhutias .

Beautiful flower plants decorated on the houses and organic farmlands on the steps of hills makes the place a vibrant a colorful collage. Tomato, Squash, Cabbage, Ginger, Turmeric, Cinnamon, Cardamom are grown here by organic farming. The gaps between the large boulders resting on the hills forms cave like spaces which serves as ideal places for meditation.

You can also visit RongdungKhola by trekking a little from Dawaipani. Further trek from RongdungKhola leads to the confluence of RongdungKhola and Rangit rivers. You can also enjoy the memorable view of sunset from Tiger Hill situated few kilometers away. Enjoy the view of Darjeeling city which looks like sparkling crystals in the evening.Dawaipani is situated in the Sinchula Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a home to 120 species of birds, thus being a paradise for bird-watchers.

Suggested Itinerary for You

DAY 1: – Reach NJP from Kolkata by train/bus. From NJP we will reach Dawaipani by car. Situated at hilltop, Dawaipani offers you a clear view of Kanchenjunga, free from mist and clouds. After lunch we will visit the nearby places at Dawaipani. Dinner and night stay.

DAY 2: – Start your day with a trek to RongdungKhola early morning. After breakfast, we will leave Dawaipani and head towards Rangarun. Situated in the Sinchula Wildlife Sanctuary, Rangarun is a quiet place surrounded by beautiful tea gardens. Rangarun was famous for its tea gardens as the tea from here was cherished by the royal family at Buckingham Palace once upon a time. The place offers a beautiful view of the Kangchenjunga, Observatory and the Tiger Hill. Enjoy the view of Darjeeling city which looks like sparkling crystals in the evening with some snacks. Dinner and night stay.

DAY 3: – After breakfast we will visit the Queen of Hills – Darjeeling situated 16km away. Visit the Seven sight-seeing Points of Darjeeling with lunch on the way. In the late afternoon, take stroll at the famous Darjeeling Mall and enjoy tea with snacks. Return to hotel and have dinner.

DAY 4: – Enjoy the sunset at Tiger Hill early in the morning. After breakfast, visit Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park. After lunch we will head towards NJP.

Trekking – A popular light trek of an hour is from Nomadic Homestay – Dawaipanito the Peshok road. There are several other trekking trails of moderate to a high difficulty level for the serious trekkers.

Hike in the forest – Thick Himalayan forest areas surround this place. So, go for a hiking adventure and discover the mysteries of nature.

Bird watching – the thick forest is the natural home for a huge variety of birds.

Farm visit – Enjoy the visit to the local farm of vegetables and fruits.

Traditional dance – get immersed in the rich cultural activity by witnessing the traditional dance by the locals.

The Best Time to Visit

This Place has a cool climate all around the year as it is situated at a high altitude of 6500 feet. However, it receives heavy rainfall in the monsoon months of July and August. So, except for these months, you can visit it any month as per your choice. However, do not forget your woolens when you go.

How to Reach

By train: The major stations – Siliguri is 72 km and NJP is 76 km from the Property. From the stations, one has to book the cab which takes about 2 hours and 50 minutes to reach depending on the road condition.

By flight: Baghdogra airport is situated around 75 km from the town and takes about 3 hours to reach.
